Olive…an incredible fruit

 “Take this green legume uncle it will help you and fight for you” Ali said to his sick uncle Arshad, “thank you son, uhh I had tried a lot for my life but all in vain, I will also give it a chance, Allah bless you my son uncle Arshad replied and departed from Ali’s father’s shop where they were sitting together. Ali, after sometimes, also left for his home located on the other corner of street. On his way home, suddenly, a kid collided with his bicycle and both of them fell down on the street road. Ali saw the boy had got scratches on arms and legs. Ali felt sorry for this accident and instead of running away he hastily picked up an orange and a blue seed from his kit and treated the injured boy. Finally, the boy was feeling well and Ali had a sigh of relief and left for his home. Ali’s father (Mr. Ahmad) who was also witnessing the situation was impressed by his son’s good behavior.

Next morning, Ali’s mother, a famous beautician in town, is going to be a buzzy bee all day in salon with her customers and Ali has to take care of his grandma who is recently diagnosed with a condition of a pain in joints and hands and knees were swell and stiff. Mrs. Ahmad sometimes used to do an ice massage to her which helped a bit in reducing her pain. But today, grandma is waiting impatiently for Ali as he said he has a cure for her illness. After breakfast Ali gives grandma a large green pill and instruct her to massage this liquid from pill on her stiffed and painful joint. Grandma laughed and said what is this, Ali? I thought you have some sensible things to do how can this help me to reduce my illness? Ali said grandma I have studied a lot about this in research journals that it has many benefits and I just took this from mother salon. Grandma laughed and said: what are you doing my apple pie? Hahahahaha…

At night, father came home saying “Ali, Ali…where are you my son?” Ali came out from his library cum laboratory saying “Yes, father.” His father said “my boy you know that doctor was surprised by seeing that injured boy, the treatment you gave to him proved to be magical for him, doctor said if it is not treated immediately, infection occurs in patient which can be seem fatal for him.” Mr. Ahmad curiously asked his son:”by the way what treatment you gave to him?” and Ali mysteriously said: “nothing special, baba…its my discovery wait for it?... and Ahhh… if you need anything call me on 3344? Hahahahahah...” Ali leaves to his workshop by winking towards Mr. Ahmad.     

A few days later, Ali has high school exams and he is preparing for his exams. His teachers has high expectations with him specially the science subject teachers because, every time Ali worked in a very efficient way and looks at the things in different aspects. He thinks every event happened or everything in this universe have some meaning or reasons, every disease has its cure nothing is impossible or even difficult in this world for him. He has all answers for his own questions… the most incredible thing about him the teachers usually mentioned about his personality is he did not asked more questions rather he loves to wait for answers of his questions, he always resonate his frequency with frequency of universe and talked to nature, he observed events occurring in the surrounding, he observed people behaviors and find answers. The life on earth and his life is like a jigsaw puzzle for him and he loves to play this game. This is Ali Ahmad no one knows what he is about to do in future no-one knows he is going to discover cure from simple oil for various health issues.     

Finally his exams finished and summer vacations started and he again spent much of his time in his workshops and study all day. One day his maternal aunt and her daughter call on. She was worried about Amna, her daughter. Aunt to Ali’s mother “sister, her stomach is not healthy, she complained of pain during and after meals, has sometime blood in stools, feeling nauseatic. I am worried about her health I don’t understand what is this condition? I also asked uncle Rashid’s son, who is studying biology but he din’t know about this either.” Waqar is one of the five boys in town who is passionate about medical sciences, now he is in tenth grade and he aims to get higher education from one of the renowned medical university of Lahore and become a doctor one day.

Ali’s aunt complained “sister, she refused to eat, I could hardly feed her.” Ali overheard their conversation, he gave her aunt a yellow colored pill and said “aunt give this to Amna as dressing on salad and rubbing on chapatti, she will soon get better, Insha allah.” Ali further “and also give this ispaghol seeds every morning before breakfast". Aunty was feeling thankful to Ali and left.

After 2 months, Ali’s school organized a science fair in his town in which a lot of science students and professionals came to educate people about science and its importance. Various students from his school participated in this event and also Ali. He is very confident about his work and decided to present in front of health professional.

Ali is presenting “I have these multi-colored soft gelatin capsules, this green capsules I used on migraine, accident injury, arthritis and ulcerative patient, and all those patient are now healthy and live their life with full joy. These are the demographics of patients and their response about this magical, legendary and fabulous thing that Allah has created for us. Allah has created everything with specific reasons and benefits for us. And He put in us the curiosity for finding things, He said in quran that Verily in the creation of the heavens and the earth, and in the alternation of night and day, and the ships which sail through the sea with that which is of use to mankind, and the water (rain) which Allah sends down from the sky and makes the earth alive therewith after its death, and the moving (living) creatures of all kinds that He has scattered therein, and in the veering of winds and clouds which are held between the sky and the earth, are indeed Ayat (proofs, evidence, signs, etc.) for people of understanding.

So nothing is hard or impossible in this world, let the life become easier, these legumes, you see in my hand, pills or capsules what you want to call them is just an olive oil from my mother’s vanity salon or a gelatin sheaths from my father’s departmental store and my contribution is just to converted this in an administered and acceptable form for my people.

 This fruit is cultivated in Mediterranean areas, country that produce olive oils are Italy, Greek, Spain, and Turkey. It contains free fatty acids that is 73% oleic acid, palmitic acid, Polyphenols, vitamin E and K, oleocanthal. Polyphenols acts as anti-oxidant, which makes olive anti-cancerous activity, and various study reveal that population consuming olives and its oil in diet has low prevalence of breast cancers, and chronic illness. Olive or its oil fight with inflammation, prevents oxidation of blood cholesterol thus preventing bad cholesterol to build up in veins and reduces chances of heart diseases.”

“The anti-inflammatory activity is due to antioxidants, oleocanthal which is proved to be equal to ibuprofen anti-inflammatory property, a study reveals that 50 ml of olive oil is equal to 10% adult dosage of ibuprofen in activity. It also has antibacterial property, in an ulcerative patient or patient prone to H.pylori infection olive reduces the risk of severe infection. The vitamin E present in olives are beneficial for skin as well.”

“Olive helps treating arthritis disease, my grandma has rheumatoid condition and when I gave this blue pill to him she laughed at me and now she is asking about this thing, my aunt’s daughter has ulcerative stomach and her stomach cannot tolerate citrus fruit and various other foods but now she is doing well and enjoy lavish flavors of every food.”

“So, you see olive has great importance in field of medicine, use olives and olive oils in your diet before you get disease and also use in medications to treat ailments.”

After 7 years, “sir …sir … there is a patient in emergency and he is panic and create disturbance in hospital, he is inquired of you, kindly visit him your-self.” Dr. Ali Ahmad left to attend patient.

After science mela, one of the medical professional brought Ali for higher studies in medical sciences and now he is doctor of pharmacy specialized in herbal and traditional use of medications, he built first ever facility hospital for his people in town.

So my readers it is not confined to the olives or its use but with every-thing in our ecosystems like our air, our land, our sand, and our food, if we justify with the things by giving or utilizing them in extent they deserve we will become not only a successful person in life, just like Dr. Ali Ahmad, but also its link our mind, heart and soul together with our self-peace. “Don’t start from the big things, let’s start from smaller ones because creation always incorporate single units and destruction need big things.” Nabeela Ijaz
